Meet Principal McGrath

Dear Miller Elementary Families,

My name is Gina Camacho McGrath and it is my sincere pleasure and honor to be coming to a wonderful school that is known for its dedication to academic excellence and service to the Tierrasanta community.  As your newly appointed principal, I look forward to working collaboratively with you to provide the best educational experience for all students.  In the coming school year we will be faced with new and exciting opportunities for thinking and learning and devising new ways to support learners and families as we continue to navigate through COVID19.  My commitment to you is that we will form a path of continuous improvement to best meet the needs of each of our children and families.  We must engage and motivate them, address the social and emotional impact of online learning and prepare for re-entry back onto the brick and mortar classrooms at Miller.  It will be done through communication, collaboration, careful consideration for each of your children and with the knowledge that we must take advantage of daily learning opportunities.

I am a proud product of San Diego Unified both as a student and educator.  After graduating from Patrick Henry High School I attended San Diego State University for my Bachelors and moved on to complete my teaching and administrative credentials at National University and USD respectively.

I began in the district over 25 years ago beginning as a classroom aide and eventually began teaching across the district at schools such as Walker, Euclid and Hamilton.  After a rigorous process I was accepted into the ELDA program where I began my journey as an administrator.  I was a vice principal intern at Curie Elementary before becoming the vice principal at Horton Elementary and then at Correia Middle School.  Throughout my journey and at my various assignments I have always held a firm belief of the importance of building strong relationships with staff, students and parents.  It begins with building trust with each of you.  Our work together will rely on our collaboration with one another to do what is best for our children.  I am dedicated to spending time in the classrooms, being of service to the staff and children and ultimately you so that I can get to know your children while supporting the teaching and learning.  The times I spend with the students are the times I value the most and find the most rewarding.

I will be setting up some times to meet virtually with all of you.  In typical times I would be making myself available to meet with you in person but since it is not typical times we must readjust.  I will be reaching out to you so that we may share in the beginning of this new journey together.  I look forward to the day when we can return to the campus and meet each other face to face and foster this new relationship.  I look forward to the days and exciting times to come.

Sincerely,

 Gina Camacho McGrath
